October Overview
After seeing BadMojo’s first post about how many books she’d read, I decided I’d keep a list of the ones I had read for the month of October. I already knew that I read quite a bit, but I was a little surprised to see how long my list got as the month wore on. It’s a loud testament to my lack of social life as well as a lack of cable television and internet access at home.
Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, and Heart of the Sea, all by Nora Roberts: Mostly romance, but with a little bit of the mystical. These are recommended, but not as well as her Circle Trilogy.
Dark Celebration – A Carpathian Reunion, by Christine Feehan: I highly recommend anything by Feehan. I didn’t realize I’d missed so many of her novels until I read this one and found several characters I didn’t recognize. I’d like to eventually catch up on the other Carpathian novels.
Sorceress, by Lisa Jackson: Not enough happened in this one for me to pursue any more of her work. It seemed slow, almost dragging on throughout the entire book.
Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, and Lover Awakened, by J.R. Ward: The first three novels in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. These were highly recommended by a few people, and I will do so as well. I loved these, and will soon be reading the next two in the series. Butterfly Baby was right, these are addicting.
These next five are from one of the book services to which I belong. They send several novels each month, not of your particular choosing but simply from a genre you’ve chosen. These are Historical Romance, which I chose because I love anything that involves historical Scotland or Ireland. These are not books I’m recommending at all. Most are cheesy romance, and they tend to be a bit shorter than the novels I usually read. None of this months’ selections took place in my preferred setting, and they seemed even less interesting than usual, but I read them nonetheless. The fifth is actually a contemporary romance from a series that they send no matter what genre you choose, which I seem to prefer over their choices of historical romance.
Bedded by her Lord, by Denise Lynn (Who comes up with these titles?)
Christmas Wedding Belles, by Nicola Cornick, Margaret McPhee, and Miranda Jarrett (three shorter stories)
Bodine’s Bounty, by Charlene Sands
Wicked Pleasures, by Helen Dickson
Strangers When We Meet, by Marisa Carroll
These last two are a result of my changing my subscription when this book club offered a new genre, called Nocturne. This is more along the lines of what I usually read – all involving something supernatural mixed with a bit of romance. I was actually fairly pleased with these two, though like the others they aren’t as long as I’d prefer. Unfortunately, they don’t have as large a selection so I won’t be receiving as many of them as often.
Dangerous Temptation, by Kathleen Korbel: This author didn’t show the Fae race as harsh as most do, but she kept enough of their mischievous nature that they didn’t seem too sugar-coated.
Unbound, by Lori Devoti: I was very pleased with this one, as its main character is a Hellhound, something I’d only seen mentioned in other books. She portrays him as a shape-shifter, but they no longer hunt the gods and are forced to find other ways to live.
Well, there you have it. That’s what I’ve been doing in my spare time for the month of October. The length of this list is somewhat depressing (if you're counting, don't forget the five I didn't have pics for - that makes 15 books), thus I’ve decided I won’t try it again so I can pretend to be blissfully ignorant of my self-imposed hermitage.

Okay teh titles of the roomances are worth posting becasue they were intertaining
and wow you did read a lot I usually get two to four read but I have had months where I read 8 if they are the shorter books. that is when I read one or two on the weekend and one over the course of the week.
Nora Roberts books are just plain fun to read.
The 3 by Nora Roberts that I just finished are combined in one book that I'll be sending Bugmom probably tomorrow along with the third in the Circle Trilogy she asked about. Let us know if you want to read them and she can prob'ly send them to you when she's finished. I also have the first 2 in the Circle Trilogy if you want them.
Those last 7 were shorter novels, about half the size of the long ones I normally read. On the weekends when I'm just being lazy at home I can sometimes get through 2 of those in a day. I just start reading and don't stop 'til I have to. Even if the book isn't that great, I finish it, hoping the whole time that it will get better. So far I've only had one that I started on and just couldn't force myself to read more than half of it. Of course, it happened to be one of the crappier historical romance the book club sent me, so I wasn't missing much.
I really like Nora Roberts too, altho I have to say I've mostly read her older bks, nothing recent. I'll keep an eye out for the Circle ones. I'm right now reading Julie Garwood's Buchanan series. Mercy and Slow Burn were really good (I like plenty of witty conversations b/w the protagonists) The others...were so-so. Murder list was better than the other two. Sometimes I get the feeling she forget it's a romance she's writing, goes off in long tangents abt secondary and even unimportant characters then towards the end of the bk, charges back and throws in several hastily contrived scenes b/w the main leads. Haphazard. I really do hope Shadow Dance, which I still have to buy, will not disappoint me coz this is one pair whose story I've been waiting for!
Hey, I fixed the theme so that no one else has that problem with the text color.
Also, WOW. That's a lot! And you read almost the exact same authors I do! I really like the supernatural romance. Are you a member of the Science Fiction Book Club? I've been a member for years and I've been really pleased with them. You might want to look into it. :)
I got turned on to the JR Ward through this group too and I read the first two in about 24 hours. They were great. I have a shit load of books to read before I'll allow myself to buy anymore though. I might spend all of tomorrow reading just to catch up.
Have you read any Sharon Shinn? The trilogy that I'm finishing now is great. Mystic and Rider, Thirteenth House, and Dark Moon Defender. :)
Once I got started on Gabaldon I read the first 4 or 5 books several times. When the last two came out, I had kind of fizzled on the series, but other people told me they were just as good. I've never heard of Garwood, I'll have to look into her stuff.
I tend to shy away from things that say Science Fiction 'cuz I'm worried it'll all be about weird alien races and robots. Is it more supernatural? Do you have a link?
For once I'm stocked up on books to read, too. I ordered a few from Barnes & Noble, and more from 2 separate book clubs.
Sharon Shinn is a new name for me, too. Even though I have plenty to read right now, those will only last so long, so I'll need to start beefing up my wish list again. :)
