I'm addicted to this show. No, I have no idea why. Now how do I get the widget into the sidebar?
I'm a little late turning in my assignment, but since Bugmom tagged me, I shall join the Book Meme Club.
Below are the instructions:
1. Grab your nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag 5 different people.
Bloodfever, by Karen Marie Moning (I love her stuff! Her Highland series was also fantastic.)
Starting with the fifth sentence:
Whatever else Barrons may be - he was the one who'd saved me. He'd opened my eyes and turned me into a weapon. Not Rowena and her merry band of sidhe-seers.
I'm not going to tag anyone, because most everyone has done this. Well, except for me, of course.
After seeing BadMojo’s first post about how many books she’d read, I decided I’d keep a list of the ones I had read for the month of October. I already knew that I read quite a bit, but I was a little surprised to see how long my list got as the month wore on. It’s a loud testament to my lack of social life as well as a lack of cable television and internet access at home.
Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, and Heart of the Sea, all by Nora Roberts: Mostly romance, but with a little bit of the mystical. These are recommended, but not as well as her Circle Trilogy.
Dark Celebration – A Carpathian Reunion, by Christine Feehan: I highly recommend anything by Feehan. I didn’t realize I’d missed so many of her novels until I read this one and found several characters I didn’t recognize. I’d like to eventually catch up on the other Carpathian novels.
Sorceress, by Lisa Jackson: Not enough happened in this one for me to pursue any more of her work. It seemed slow, almost dragging on throughout the entire book.
Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, and Lover Awakened, by J.R. Ward: The first three novels in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. These were highly recommended by a few people, and I will do so as well. I loved these, and will soon be reading the next two in the series. Butterfly Baby was right, these are addicting.
These next five are from one of the book services to which I belong. They send several novels each month, not of your particular choosing but simply from a genre you’ve chosen. These are Historical Romance, which I chose because I love anything that involves historical Scotland or Ireland. These are not books I’m recommending at all. Most are cheesy romance, and they tend to be a bit shorter than the novels I usually read. None of this months’ selections took place in my preferred setting, and they seemed even less interesting than usual, but I read them nonetheless. The fifth is actually a contemporary romance from a series that they send no matter what genre you choose, which I seem to prefer over their choices of historical romance.
Bedded by her Lord, by Denise Lynn (Who comes up with these titles?)
Christmas Wedding Belles, by Nicola Cornick, Margaret McPhee, and Miranda Jarrett (three shorter stories)
Bodine’s Bounty, by Charlene Sands
Wicked Pleasures, by Helen Dickson
Strangers When We Meet, by Marisa Carroll
These last two are a result of my changing my subscription when this book club offered a new genre, called Nocturne. This is more along the lines of what I usually read – all involving something supernatural mixed with a bit of romance. I was actually fairly pleased with these two, though like the others they aren’t as long as I’d prefer. Unfortunately, they don’t have as large a selection so I won’t be receiving as many of them as often.
Dangerous Temptation, by Kathleen Korbel: This author didn’t show the Fae race as harsh as most do, but she kept enough of their mischievous nature that they didn’t seem too sugar-coated.
Unbound, by Lori Devoti: I was very pleased with this one, as its main character is a Hellhound, something I’d only seen mentioned in other books. She portrays him as a shape-shifter, but they no longer hunt the gods and are forced to find other ways to live.
Well, there you have it. That’s what I’ve been doing in my spare time for the month of October. The length of this list is somewhat depressing (if you're counting, don't forget the five I didn't have pics for - that makes 15 books), thus I’ve decided I won’t try it again so I can pretend to be blissfully ignorant of my self-imposed hermitage.

Okay, I don't really have a favorite, but Snooch does. Any reason to post Two Lumps is worth it.

...or rather, she asked nicely. So here's my version:
2's Meme
Two names you go by:
Brinn and Brinn Ann
Two things you are wearing right now:
Slacks, sweater (it's 90 degrees out, but freezing in my office)
Two things you would want (or have) in a relationship:
Love, trust
Two of your favorite things to do:
Read, visit new places (though I rarely do the second)
Two things you want very badly at the moment:
Peace (whether it be in general, or peace of mind, any kind would be great), to feel better (slightly under the weather)
Two pets you had/have:
I have to list three, because I'd hate to leave one of my babies out: Sister (white & black kitty), Sheba (tabby), and Honey (lab/pit bull mix)
Two people who will answer these questions, or first to send it back:
I'm not going to ask anyone else to do this because most of my neighbors already have.
Two things you did last night:
Had drinks at Chili's with a friend, woke up a about a dozen times (thanks to my 3 furry kids and this dratted Sudafed)
Two things you ate yesterday:
A giant baked potato (or at least part of it), chicken caesar salad
Two people you have last talked to:
Since I answer the phones at work, I've talked to at least a dozen customers and vendors so far.
Two things you're doing tomorrow:
Going to work, and hanging out with family & friends for my cousin's fiance's birthday
Two longest car rides:
Southeast Texas to Chicago (I was about 5), and SE Texas to Colorado (I was 16)
Two favorite holidays:
I've noticed on my neighbors' blogs from the UK that for them "holiday" means trip or vacation. I've never really been on one of those, but I'd love to someday. As far as the US version, meaning days we celebrate, I'd have to say Christmas and Thanksgiving, since I get to see so much of my family at that time.
Two favorite drinks:
Alcoholic, strawberry margarita and amaretto sour; non-alcoholic, tea and sprite
...go to Moody Gardens.
My favorite attractions are the Rainforest Pyramid and the Aquariam Pyramid, but I'd really love a chance to stay at the Moody Gardens Hotel.
...someone to take me to the zoo.
Nope, no clue where that came from. I just felt the need to say it, or at least type it.
Humberto, the little fucker, finally stumbled in around 3:00 this morning, no doubt after a night out carousing on the Gulf of Mexico, but by the time he came in he had changed from a Tropical Storm to a HURRICANE. Yes, that’s right, we had a hurricane in the wee hours of the morning.
My phone rang at 2:30 AM, shaking me from a deep sleep. It was Mom. “Wake up, Brinn. We’re having a hurricane.” By 3:00 the winds had gotten pretty bad, and for the next hour a teetered on the edge of a panic attack while I road out the eye-wall of the storm in my tiny, old rent house with my dog and two cats. For those of you who don’t know, the eye-wall on the east side of the hurricane is the worst part, though I’m not sure if that’s the technical term for it. Thankfully, this was just a Category 1 hurricane, so it wasn’t catastrophic. I am also incredibly grateful that I live next to a large tin building, which almost entirely blocked my teensy house from the 75+ mph winds. Had it not been there, I’m certain my house would have been halfway demolished as the landlords haven’t been too keen on the upkeep of the outside. I honestly think the wooden boards outside are the originals from when the house was built, quite likely at least 50 years ago, and there are even a few around the bottom that are missing. I truly can’t complain, though, because of the price, the yard, and the fact that they basically leave me alone.
By 4:00 the calm of the eye settled over my house, and by 4:30 the west side of the storm hit. It was probably only half as bad as the east side, but now that my neighbor’s house was all that was blocking me I got a bit more wind than I had the first time. As I am writing this, I’m typing the draft on my home computer where I don’t have the internet and will save it to my USB so I can upload it at work. My boss called not too long ago to tell me the power was on, and Dad told me the flooding should be down enough in 30-45 minutes for me to drive on the streets. I haven’t inspected the damage much, just a quick glimpse out the front and back doors, but not much seems to have happened to my house. When I leave I’ll look a little closer, and check out my car. I just got a brand new little Hyundai Accent on Friday, and I’m hoping it’s okay, it’s so cute. I’ll update when I get to work if I see anything note-worthy, and possibly grab a couple of pics with my phone.
Update: I didn’t see anything spectacular on the way in, mostly just branches and such, and a couple of streets are still flooded. It seems like Beaumont (where I work) may have had a little less damage than Nederland (where I live), but I’m not sure as I haven’t had time to explore. I checked the local news on their website, but they didn’t have much to say, only a reminder that hurricane season lasts until November 30. How lovely :P
